Proof of Concept: Karachi, Pakistan

From June to November 2016, we implemented a proof-of-concept (POC) to test the viability of the Teach the World model. We recruited 23 children aged 5 - 9 years who had never attended school. Each child was given a tablet with reading and math apps, presented in an engaging, interactive,“gamified” format. For 90 days, daily sessions were led by a facilitator, but the children received no direct instruction

Nielsen, the international market research company, conducted an independent evaluation. Their research included a pre-and post test to determine the extent to which children were able to learn basic reading and math skills. They also created a control group of similar children from the same community to do a comparative assessment. The results exceeded all expectations and demonstrate the immense potential of a technology-enhanced solution for increasing literacy in some of the most challenging areas in the world.
